the cold war
with the many different civilizations there were a few who turned to Karl Marx and his version of a society that would be totally equal to one another. this Utopian idea did not blossom into Marxism but rather communism and it made way to become one of the biggest diplomatic conflicts between the united states and Russia. the cold war was the manifestation of the creation of the atomic bomb. there was a huge rivalry with atomic weapons and because both sides had them they made the phrase MAD mutual assured destruction. the race was not only with the arms but also with the space race and what became the Vietnam conflict. Vietnam was the manifestation of the fight against communism. in the 1960, the Vietnam war was because of the domino theory where the west would be overcome by communism because they were each dominoes. the war was thought to be in favor of the united states until the Tet offensive and made its way into news all over the world. this battle was fought between the west and communist Russia until the fall of communism.
world war 2
the beginning of the second world war manifested in 4 points M.A.I.N. the M standing for militarization of the Rhine area.the league of nations showed that they had no backbone because all they did was appease Hitler. the A is for allies which were made into two powers the axis and the allies. the I is for imperialism. imperialism brought pressure to each country to showboat its power and also it made the race for colonies bigger. as many were picking apart Africa they fought for the land and its resources.lastly nationalism. the rise of Hitler created tension because of the treaty of Versailles and made the statement that it was unjust and not right for the German people. world war 2 also brought some of the biggest battles known especially in the pacific with the united states versus japan. the Japanese were relentless and often sacrificed their own lives without hesitation. they fought the us but failed to stop the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
chapter 21
the first world war: the events that carried out between 1914 and 1918 were manifested in the assassination of prince Ferdinand. it is said that the black hand , a secret organization, was behind the assassination because they did not want non pure blood to rule the country or they did not want the unification that he promised under his rule. either way it caused the events for the Great war and brought hell on earth. the war was new because of the new types of machinery they had. they had new weapons such as the machine gun, tanks, airplanes, and also toxic chemicals. Germany and its allies were relentless and brought the fight. during the battles there was a new form of fighting called trench warfare. the territories were divided into different sides and then they fought with "no mans land" in between. trench warfare was ineffective in gaining territory and strategy but was very effective in killing. there was hard times in the trenches, if the bullets didn't get you then the diseases would. they had to battle with the rats and also gang green and other infections. the first world war also introduced chemical warfare which brought some of the most painful deaths. mustard gas and also gaseous hydrochloric acid could eat you from the inside out. the first world war was one of the bloodiest and inhuman conflicts we have had in human history.
chapter 20
the second wave of colonial conquests. the many European nations colonized the many different parts of Africa. they pushed their frontiers and wanted control of resources that they did not have. this conquest for resources made an impact that is still seen to this very day. the many nations that have come from the African division have suffered from genocides, aprtide, and also segregation. Africa was divided up and every bit of it was for the enhancement of the mother country. this new colonialism was then turned into imperialism. the many countries whose interest were in Africa were exploited and also after the first world war the Germany and its allies forfeited all of their territories to the western powers. in Africa there was a monopoly on cash crops and then all of the sustainable agriculture was taken out and replaced. the many people who had to work these farms made little to no pay and were forced to deplete the nutrition in the soil for profit. all of the effects of this and more are seen today in the world.
